Shenk’s Homestead 2023 Release Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey pays tribute to the legacy of American whiskey pioneer, John Shenk. This Kentucky-made whiskey adheres to the traditional Sour Mash process, incorporating a portion of the previously distilled whiskey mash (the “setback”) into the next batch. This full-bodied, small batch whiskey is 91.2 proof and has a unique character due to the inclusion of malted rye in the recipe. Maturation occurs in two distinctive barrel profiles: a part is aged in naturally air-dried, seasoned wood with a signature toast and char profile, while a portion matures in special toasted French oak barrels. The result is a warm and rich whiskey with notes of spiced fruit, nougat, honey, and spiced chocolate.
